Dave Bryer was a terrific competitor as a member of Montclair State’s fencing team for four years. During his career he recorded 120 victories against seven defeats. He was team co-captain his junior and senior years and won all his matched in his fresh and sophomore seasons. His sensational winning streak came to a half late in his junior season while competing with a broken ankle. He captained the first unbeaten MSC fencing team in 1970-71, was North Atlantic Conference champion in 1968 and 1971 and from 1969-1971 reigned as N.J. College Sabre Champion. In 1968 he and Dale Rodgers completely foiled the opposition and captured the North Atlantic Sabre Team title. Bryer was Team MVP for three years, finished 12th in the 1971 NCAA Men’s Sabre Championships and was selected as one of the “Outstanding Athletes of America”.
