A mainstay of the Montclair State baseball program during the early 1950s, Harry Durkee posted an impressive career during a time when collegiate baseball toiled in virtual obscurity. Despite the low profile, Durkee was a stalwart on the mound for head coach Bill Dioguardi posting a 17-5 mark in three seasons with the Indians. In his first year with Montclair, Durkee went 7-1 with a 2.00 ERA, striking out 51 batters in 72 innings or work. The following year he posted a 7-2 mark allowing just 57 hits in 74 2/3 innings. The righthander fanned 68 batters and walked just 27. Durkee, who helped Montclair State win two New Jersey Intercollegiate Athletic Conference championships during his career, pitched 191 innings and had a strikeout-walk ratio of 2:1 (154 Ks, 70 BBs). His 17-5 career record ranked as one of the Top 10 all-time in the tradition-rich Montclair State baseball program.
