Jill Jeffrey , a star point guard for Montclair State during the late 1970s, scored over 1,000 points as the smallest player in the country at the time, and handed out over 500 career assists. She became know for her fiery and gritty play and helped guide the most talented basketball team in MSC history to the AIAW Final Four in 1978. Jeffrey returned to Montclair State as the head coach of the program and guided her teams to an impressive 130-58 mark from 1984-1991 entering the NJAC playoffs four times. The last three years saw the women's team win 20-plus games, the first time that had happened in 12 years and also saw the team enjoy two NCAA Division III Tournament berths in 1989 and 199. Jeffrey was named the NCAA Atlantic Regional Coach of the Year in 1989 and 1990 and was a finalist for National Coach of the Year honors.
