LaVorgna played basektball and softball at MSC from 1971-75. Included in her basketball achievements were leading the team in assists for three years while helping MSC compile a 53-14 record, including NJ State Championship two out of three years. She was a finalist at the 1974 Olympic Baseball team trials, and made the New Jersey Gems of the Women's Professional Basketball League, howevr, could not accept the offer to play due to a conflict with her teaching/coaching job. LaVorgna batted .414 in three seasons for the softball team while leading the team in five categories as a freshman and sophomore. She captained the 1974 squad to an 8-2 record. Additional athletic accomplishments include participating in ASA Fast Pitch Softball for 15 years. During this span, she was a 10-time NJ State Tournament champions while acting as player/coach for the NJ Schaeferettes, NJ Avery All-Stars, Parsippany Pacesetters and Budweiser Belles. She was also named Most Valuable Player twice and Rookie of the Year.
