A starter in every game during his four year varsity baseball career, Father Jude was an outstanding third baseman for Bill Dioguardi. Hitting in the third position in the batting order throughout his career at Montclair State, his two best hitting mark were .356 in 1956 and .330 in 1953. One of the biggest moments of his baseball career came in 1956 when he broke up a no-hitter in the last of the ninth inning against one of the East’s top collegiate teams, St. John’s University. A three-year member of the cross country team under head coach Richard Willing, Father Jude placed fifth in the New Jersey Championship meet in 1955. Before entering the priesthood, he signed a professional baseball contract and late coached at North Arlington High School and St. Peter’s College.
