Karl T. Gordon spent four years at Montclair State playing baseball, three of those years at the varsity level. Gordon was the captain of the Indians his senior year. A career batting average of .370 Gordon set seven offensive records in 1974 and was voted the Most Valuable Player that season. A three-time New Jersey College Conference selection and All-Conference team each of his three years, Gordon was selected to the All-Tournament team in the NCAA College Division Regional Tournament in 1972. Drafted by the San Francisco Giants his junior year, Gordon stayed at Montclair and was drafted by the Chicago Cubs in 1974 and played in the organization for four years.
