Kevin McGrath spent three year at Montclair State as a cross country and indoor and outdoor track member. In his junior and senior years, McGrath served as captain of those three teams. McGrath was an All-Conference selection for cross country from 1969-1972, while he earned that same honors for indoor and outdoor track in 1971 and 1972. During those same years, McGrath was chosen as an All NJ College selection for cross country and track as well as All-Eastern Region for both seasons. In 1971, McGrath had one of his most exciting experiences as he placed fourth in the NCAA regional mile at 4:16.6, a school record that stood for six years. In 1970, McGrath was named as the Most Valuable Runner on the track team and was also the leading scorer.
