Marilyn Taigia-Chamberlain was the first softball coach that Montclair State ever had, and remained as its only coach for 17 straight seasons. After a five-game schedule opened the College’s first softball campaign in 1966, Chamberlain guided MSC to a 3-2 record that year, and continued on finishing in 1982 with 149 wins, placing her as the top softball coach in the entire state. In those 17 years, Chamberlin only lived through one losing season with her best year coming in 1980 when MSC finished 22-6. She had a winning percentage of .620 and from 1975-1982 her teams qualified for the postseason nine times, including the Division III AIAW National Championship in 1980. Chamberlin was also a member of the Panzer College Hall of Fame as she was inducted in 1977.
