A graduate of Montclair State in 1970, Michael Nuzzo was as dominating a wrestler as one could find anywhere. Finishing his collegiate career with a stellar 72-16 dual match record, Nuzzo grabbed the MSC Most Valuable Wrestler of the Year Award in his senior season. In 1967, Nuzzo was crowned as Metropolitan wrestling champion while also being crowned the NAIA District 31 champion. The next year, he repeated as NAIA District 31 champion and was voted the Most Valuable Player of the tournament. His 1967-68 season was his best as Nuzzo completed a perfect season at 12-0 and finished with an MSC career record at the time of 43 pins.
