Michael Oakes was the dominant force behind the successful MSC basketball team from 1965-1969 ultimately becoming a member of the elite 1,000 Point Club. Oakes was a member of the 1968 and 1969 NJSCAC championship teams, the latter of which took the NCAA Eastern Regional Championship. Oakes was awarded the Sportsmanship Award of the Kiwanis Club Basketball Classic in 1968, ECAC Player of the Week in February 1969, NJSAC First-Team All-State in 1969, All New Jersey College First Team in 1969, as well as serving as a graduate assistant at the Panzer School of Healthy, Physical Education and Recreation.
