Phil Bacarella starred in two sports for MSC from 1969-1972. The Bayonne, NJ native was a three-year starter for both the basketball and baseball teams. Included in his basketball accomplishments were team leading scorer and rebounder in 1969-71 as well as the leading scorer in the NJSAC in scoring in the 1970-71 season. He is a member of the elite 1,000 Point Club completing the difficult task in only three years. Baccarella was a member of the weekly ECAC All-Star Team two times during the 1969-70 season winning Sophomore of the Week honors in the same year. A versatile baseball player, Baccarella played shortstop, rightfield, first base and pitcher during his career. He had a lifetime batting average over .300 and was chosen to the NJSAC All-Conference, and All-State Baseball Team (College Division) in 1972. Culminating his fine career at Montclair State, Baccarella was shoen as one of 1972’s Outstanding Athletes of America.
