During his undergraduate career at Montclair State, Bob Gleason earned four varsity awards and was the recipient of several prestigious awards for varsity basketball. In his freshman season he set a school record for field goals in a season with 237. In addition he set an NCAA record for consecutive free throws (53) in a string of six games from February 8, 1966 to February 25, 1966. Performance of this nature brought him recognition as a New Jersey All-State College Division and NCAA All-America honors during the 1964-65 and 1965-66 seasons. In addition he was honored as MSC Athlete of the Year for the 1965-66 academic year.
