Its too bad that Sharon Ann Kearns Wejsa waited until her junior year to join the track and field program at Montclair State because when she did, the record books needed a revamping rather quickly. In her first year in 1981, she snapped three Montclair indoor track records in the 200 and 400 meters and as a member of the distance medley relay team. Later in that Spring during the outdoor season Wejsa set a new Montclair record in her first meet as a member of the winning 4.400 relay. Her first year of competition resulted in her breaking eight Montclair State records. In her second year on the track, she picked up right where she left off and finished with five additional school records. Her athletic accolades culminated with her being named an All-American during both the indoor and outdoor seasons in four different events.
