Will Brown made Montclair State University track & field history as he became the first male student-athlete to claim multiple indoor track & field NCAA National Championships. He took home first place in the 55-meter hurdles in 2009 before capping off his indoor career with a title in 2011 in the same event. The South Jersey native was a runner-up in the 55-meter to round out his indoor All-American honors.
Brown's first National Championship run included being named NJAC Outstanding Male Athlete of the Year at the NJAC Indoor Championships. He crossed the finish line at the NCAA Championships in 7.39, edging second place by a mere .03 seconds. The 7.39 time broke the school record and remains the top mark in the 55 hurdles. He nearly went back-to-back, taking second place with a time of 7.51.
He rebounded in 2011, setting a Capital University Capital Center record time of 7.43 during the 2011 Indoor Championships. Brown tallied a heat-winning mark of 7.44 seconds during the preliminary round and watched a time of 7.54 get set in the first heat during the finals. Despite not competing for nearly a month leading up to the competition, Brown surged into the lead after the third hurdle and finished in 7.43, .4/100ths of a second off his school-record time set two years prior.
During his outdoor career, Brown was named the NJAC Outstanding Athlete during the 2008 season and was named an All-American. He ran 14.28 in the 110 hurdles to finish second. The following year, he placed seventh, 14.69, to earn All-American laurels for the second straight year.
