Shimko was named the NJAC Defensive Player of the Week after helping Montclair State pick up its second straight victory, a 45-0 shutout of Southern Virginia on Saturday.
Shimko became the first Red Hawks to earn NJAC Defensive Player of the Week honors this season as MSU posted its first shutout since 2012. He secured two interceptions in the win, becoming the fifth different player in the NJAC to record a pair of picks in a game this season. Shimko returned his first INT for a 29-yard touchdown in a defensive effort which saw the Red Hawks hold SVU to just 176 total yards of offense. Shimko currently ranks tied for seventh in the NJAC in passes defended (1.00 per game).
