Carolyn McCrea – Softball (2005-2008)
McCrea helped return Montclair State to the national stage as her dominant right arm pitched the Red Hawks to an NJAC Championship and consecutive NCAA Tournament appearances in her junior and senior seasons. A two-time NFCA All-American, McCrea led Montclair to back-to-back ECAC titles in 2005 and 2006 before becoming one of the best pitchers in the nation in her final two campaigns. In 2007, McCrea was named NJAC Pitcher of the Year and was a First-Team All-American as MSU made its first NCAA appearance in eight years. She went 30-7, led Division III in victories and tied the MSU single-season mark while setting a new school record for strikeouts with 223. She won 14 straight decisions including the fifth perfect game in Montclair State history in addition to registering scoreless inning streaks of 27 and 28 innings. The following year, McCrea repeated as the league's Pitcher of the Year and All-America as Montclair fashioned one of the best seasons in its history. McCrea was 24-4 with a 0.95 ERA and 201 strikeouts as the Red Hawks set a school record with 43 wins and posted a perfect 18-0 mark in conference play. The righthander would lift the Red Hawks to the NJAC title winning twice on the final day, including a no-hitter in the championship game. McCrea finished her career with a 74-20 mark, 597 strikeouts, a 1.49 ERA and nine saves completing her career as the all-time leader for wins, strikeouts and saves in addition to 28 shutouts.
Dave Wurst – Baseball (1998-2001)
Wurst was key part of the most successful run for the Montclair State baseball program during the crossover into the new millennium. As a freshman in 1998, Wurst played in 47 games and was named All-NJAC when the Red Hawks made a run to the NCAA Division III national championship game. He batted .310 with 49 hits, 41 runs scored and 23 RBI the next year during MSU's "wooden bat" campaign and was named all-conference and All-Region before becoming a central figure in the finest season in program history. In 2000, MSU set several records for batting and led Division III in doubled with 145 as it went 42-7-1, setting a record for victories and capping it off with the program's second NCAA championship. Right in the middle of that offensive explosion that season was leadoff hitter Wurst, who hit .344 with 65 hits including 15 doubles and scored 62 runs along with 19 stolen bases and 30 runs batted in. Wurst had three hits on the last day as MSU won twice to win the title becoming the first team in 15 years to claim the championship after dropping its first game at the World Series. He closed out his career in 2001 with a career-best .354 batting average and six home runs as the Red Hawks returned to the World Series placing third. Wurst was named All-NJAC for the fourth time, earned his third All-Region selection and was named to the ABCA All-America Team. In 191 career games, Wurst registered 226 hits, with 35 doubles eight home runs, 203 runs scored, 105 RBI and 68 stolen bases, the latter number still the career mark to this day. During his career, Montclair posted a 143-47-2 record, 62-10 in NJAC contests. Wurst is one of three players in program history to record 200 hits, 200 runs and 100 RBI in a career.
Gabby White – Soccer (2001-2004)
One of the best defenders in the history of the women's soccer program, Gabby White was instrumental in the rise of the Red Hawks to national prominence during the early part of the 2000s. After seeing plenty of action during her first season in 2001, White became a fixture in the MSU defensive unit and made Montclair State one of the toughest teams to score against the next three years. She earned the first of her three All-NJAC honors in 2002 and was named Third-Team All-Region by the National Soccer Coaches Association as she finished second on the team for assists. The Red Hawks would reach the NJAC Championship Game for the first time in its history. The next year, MSU added another first claiming the conference's regular-season title and No. 1 seed in the NJAC Tournament as White, a repeat selection on the All-NJAC and All-Region squads, anchored a defense that surrendered just 15 goals and registered 12 shutouts in 21 contests. White's career finished in 2004 as she was named the NJAC Defensive Player of the Year, the second Red Hawk to achieve that accolade. Scoring against Montclair proved difficult again as it allowed 16 goal with 10 shutouts reaching the NJAC title game for the third consecutive season. After coming up short the previous two trips, the Red Hawks claimed its first conference crown knocking off perennial NCAA contender The College of New Jersey in penalty kicks to earn its first NCAA Tournament berth. White, who appeared in 78 games, recorded three goals and 10 assists in addition to her defensive prowess. Montclair State posted a 50-24-11 record during White's career with 48 shutouts giving up just 68 goals.
