Merrill closed out an outstanding 2016 campaign last week for the Red Hawk volleyball team which made its second appearance in the NCAA Division III Tournament at Stevens. Merrill, who became the first MSU player to be named AVCA All-Region, totaled a career-high 28 kills along with 10 digs in Montclair's five-set loss to Clark University. Merrill hit .441 for the match committing just two errors in 59 attempts. The 28 kills were the second-highest single-match total in program history and she completed the year with 377 kills, fifth-highest season total. Merrill ranked second in the NJAC in points (416.5), third in hitting efficiency (.284) and second in kills per set (3.81).
