Westerberg set three individual school records and added another in a relay helping MSU to an eighth-place finish at the Metropolitan Championships at Rutgers University. Westerberg began the meet with an NCAA “B” cut in the 50 freestyle while also setting a school record as he placed fourth in the event with a time of 20.89. He originally posted the same time earlier in the evening on the lead leg of the 200 free relay that also placed fourth and was the leadoff man in the 400 medley relay that was eighth overall with a school record 3:34.06. The next day he was 18th in the 100 butterfly establishing a new MSU mark of 52.22 breaking the old record of 52.42 set in 1996. He was also the leadoff leg of the 800 freestyle relay that placed sixth (7:08.05). On the final day he placed 10th in the 100 freestyle by reset his own MSU mark with a time of 46.63 in the prelims (He was 46.71 in the finals). Westerberg also helped the 400 freestyle relay team to fourth place (3:10.68).
