OFFICIAL SITE OF RED HAWKS ATHLETICS

Rick Giancola - Sprague Field

The long-standing 6,000-seat Rick Giancola - Sprague Field is home to the football, field hockey, and lacrosse teams. Built in the 1930s, Sprague Field was also the original home for baseball and track and field. The first college football night game in New Jersey was played at Sprague Field on October 3, 1941, as Montclair State hosted Hofstra. In 1979, the facility became one of the first in the state to support an artificial turf surface, which remained until 2006, when new Field Turf was installed. Rick Giancola - Sprague Field has been the host site of numerous NJAC and NCAA events over the years and was the site of the 2012 NCAA Division III Women's Lacrosse Championship. The facility, which will host the 2020 NCAA Division III Field Hockey Championship in November 2020, for many years was also the home for the University's Commencement.

Originally just Sprague Field, the field was renamed to honor the legacy of longstanding football head coach Rick Giancola on September 3, 2026.Â
