Johnson Leads Montclair State Past Ramapo

Upper Montclair, NJ - Junior hitter STACEY JOHNSON (Paterson, NJ/Passaic County) collected 24 kills and added seven digs as Montclair State won for the second time in three matches, defeating Ramapo, 3-1 in New Jersey Athletic Conference action on Tuesday evening. Game scores of the match were 30-25, 25-30, 30-25, 30-16.

Freshman TIFFANY ACIZ (Secaucus, NJ/Secaucus) added 10 kills and 21 assists for the Red Hawks (3-13, 0-4 NJAC). Junior hitter THEONI MANTZOROS (Whippany, NJ/Whippany Park) had nine kills for the Roadrunners (1-11, 0-4 NJAC).

Johnson, who missed the school record by two kills, had five in the opening game as Montclair scored the final four points to go up 1-0. Ramapo would jump out to a 22-13 win in Game Two, but MSU rallied to tie the match at 25-25 behind the serving of JENNIFER OLAN (Jersey City, NJ/McNair Academy), who served eight straight points. However, the Roadrunners stemmed the tide and took the game as DIANA PARADA (Secaucus, NJ/Memorial) served out the final four points.

After Montclair State took the third game, CREONAILLE RAMIREZ (Jersey City, NJ/Academic) helped give the Red Hawks a 17-5 lead with nine service points. Johnson then closed out the contest with a kill on match point. Olan finished with 12 assists and 12 digs for MSU, which also got eight kills and nine assists from CINDY CACERES (North Bergen, NJ/North Bergen). Parada had six kills and 16 digs for Ramapo.
