JOEY MATIAS (Union City, NJ/Emerson) scored 16 points and
JOSEPH THOMAS (Linden, NJ/Linden) added 14 as Montclair State won its fourth straight with a 74-67 win over Goucher College in NCAA Division III Men's Basketball action at Panzer Gymnasium on Saturday evening.
MICHAEL GLUCK (Union, NJ/Union) added nine points, including a late three pointer as the Red Hawks (6-4) used a strong second-half shooting performance in holding off the Gophers (4-4).
LAFAYETTE MELTON (Greenbelt, MD/Eleanor Roosevelt) had 15 points for Goucher, which committed 26 turnovers in the contest. Montclair State led 31-27 at the half and built a 48-35 lead with 10:48 to play in the second as MICHAEL DAVIS (Atlantic City, NJ/Atlantic City) scored on a layup. But the Gophers battled back and took their only lead with 3:19 to play as ISAAC BROOKS (Severn, MD/Archbishop Spalding) nailed a three-pointer. However, the lead was short-lived as Thomas sank a pair of free throws and Matias buried a three-pointer to give Montclair a 66-62 lead with 2:30 left.
A three-pointer by Melton pulled Goucher within 68-67 with 1:22 to play, but Gluck responded with a three pointer from the right side with 63 seconds remaining. Thomas then sank 3-of-4 free throws to seal the game.
Thomas added eight rebounds, five assists and six steals for the Red Hawks, who shot 13-of-24 in the second half (54.2 percent). Davis had 12 points and four blocked shots. THABO LETSEBE (Johannesburg, S. Africa/Towson Catholic) had 14 points and eight rebounds for Goucher.
