Skeete Leads MSU to Martucci Holiday Tournament Title

Upper Montclair, NJ - Tournament Most Valuable Player DARIUS SKEETE (Union, NJ/Union) scored a season-high 30 points and grabbed seven rebounds as Montclair State captured the Billy Martucci Holiday Tourmanent with a 64-59 win over Savannah College of Art and Design at Panzer Gymnasium on Friday evening..

All-Tournament Team members OMAR BOOTHE (Teaneck, NJ/Teaneck) and JOSEPH THOMAS (Linden, NJ/Linden) combined for 14 points nine rebounds and 10 assists as the Red Hawks (8-4) won their sixth straight.

MARCUS ROSS (Chicago, ILL) finished with 18 points and nine rebounds for the Bees (9-6), while WESLEY ADAMS (Rome, GA) added 17. Both were named to the All-Tournament Team as well.
Montclair, which led by as many as 12 in the second half, saw its lead dwindle to 58-56 with 3:15 to go as Adams buried one of his five three-pointers in the game. PAUL OTIM (Kampala, Uganda) sank a free throw to pull SCAD within a point, but Skeete answered with a pair of free throws to give MSU a 60-57 lead with 1:17 to play.

After Ross scored on a layup, Skeete naile an off-balanced jumper from the left corner with 25 seconds to give Montclair a 62-59 lead. BEN MARTINEZ (Scotch Plains, NJ/SP-Fanwood) iced the game with two seconds left on foul shots.

Savannah led most of the first half and held a 20-16 advantage with 6:28 to before Montclair pulled off a 17-2 run to close out the opening period. JOEY MATIAS (Union City, NJ/Emerson) sank a pair of three pointers and Boothe had five points in the spurt as the Red Hawks took a 33-22 lead into the intermission.

In the consolation game, York College (NY) defeated Worcester State behind ROBERTO TAPIA (Queens Village, NY/Campus Magnet), who scored 16 points.
