Providence, RI - ANDREW MACHO (North Arlington, NJ/North Arlington) and FRANK LEPORE (West Paterson, NJ/Passaic Valley) each tallied a goal as Montclair State topped Johnson & Wales, 2-1 on Thursday evening.
OSEI BONSU (Parlin, NJ/Old Bridge) and RYAN GUTERL (Lyndhurst, NJ/Lyndhurst) each had an assist for the Red Hawks (3-3-1), who won for the first time since September 1st, a span of four games.
Macho gave the Red Hawks an early 1-0 lead at the 32 minute mark of the first half as he headed in a pass from Bonsu past J&W goalkeeper TREVOR FODAN. Six minutes later, Lepore extended the lead to two goals as he collected a pass from Guterl an fired a shot into the left corner.
Johnson & Wales would pull within a goal in the second half, but ALEX LUNA (Newark, NJ/Hudson Catholic) made several key saves down the stretch to preserve the victory.
Luna finished with five saves for MSU, which outshot J&W, 12-7. The Red Hawks return to action on Saturday, September 22nd as they face Worcester State (MA) at 10:00 am.
