Pomona, NJ (09/07/01) - Roanoke College (VA) scored five unanswered goals as they handed Montclair State its second straight loss, 5-1 at the Seashore Classic held at Richard Stockton College on Friday evening.
OSEI BONSU (Parlin, NJ/Old Bridge) had given the Red Hawks a 1-0 lead in the 14th minute as he took a pass from freshman MATT CASWELL (Piscataway, NJ/Piscataway) and fired a shot past Roanoke goaltender CHRIS EBELING.
But that would be all the scoring MSU would get. Roanoke tied the game in the 41st minute as HAROLD MCCONNELL scored. Two minutes later, Roanoke took the lead for good as REGI FRANCOIS scored with 2:31 left in the first half. DAVE MATTHEWS extended the lead to 3-1 in the 76th minute before McConnell made it a three-goal advantage 81:10 into the match. Matthews accounted for the final goal.
ALEX LUNA (Newark, NJ/Hudson Catholic) made three saves in goal for the Red Hawks, who were out shot 14-11 in the contest.
MSU continues action in the Seashore Classic on Saturday as they face Allegheny College (PA).
