The Montclair State University women's basketball team recorded its fourth win in its last five games by holding on for a 55-53 victory at Rutgers-Newark on Wednesday, Jan. 30, at the Golden Dome. The Red Hawks are now 9-10 overall and 6-7 in the New Jersey Athletic Conference.
The Red Hawks led by as much as 16 points in the second half (52-36), but a 14-0 run by the host Scarlet Raiders brought Rutgers-Newark within two points (52-50) with just over two minutes remaining. Junior center JASMINE BATTS (Carteret, NJ) paced MSU with 17 points and nine rebounds, including the winning basket with 1:46 remaining to put Montclair up, 55-50. Batts has now led MSU in scoring in 17 of 19 games this winter, including the last nine contests.
MSU will host Rutgers-Camden on Saturday, Feb. 2, at 2:00 p.m. at Panzer Gymnasium before entertaining Manhattanville on Monday, Feb. 4, at 7:00 p.m.
