Upper Montclair, NJ (10/1/02) - Sophomore ROBIN PEARCE (Shadow Hills, CA/Village Christian) and junior DOMINI LANZONE (River Edge, NJ/River Dell) combined for 41 kills to lead Rutgers-Newark to a 3-1 victory over Montclair State in New Jersey Athletic Conference Women's Volleyball action at Panzer Gymnasium on Tuesday evening.
Freshman SHEENA ELDRED (Fairfax, VA/Fairfax) had 50 assists for the Scarlet Raiders (5-5, 3-1 NJAC), who snapped a three-match losing streak. STACEY JOHNSON (Paterson, NJ/Passaic County Tech) had 12 kills for the Red Hawks (7-8, 2-3 NJAC), who have lost four of their last six matches.
The Scarlet Raiders took the first game 30-22, but Montclair battled back to even the match as Johnson recorded four kills while
KELLY MCGUIRE (Upper Saddle River, NJ/N. Highlands) had three service aces in MSU's 30-27 triumph. Rutgers-Newark took control of the match in game three with a 30-22 win behind six kills from Pearce and four by Lanzone. The Scarlet Raiders closed out the match in the fourth game, 30-25.
Pearce collected 23 kills, added three aces and had nine digs while KRISTEN ENDOW (Lakewood, CA/Gretchen Whitney) had 24 digs. Lanzone finished with 18 kills to go along with 10 digs.
CARMEN ALVARADO (Newark, NJ/Barringer) had nine kills. 13 assists and two service aces.
TIFFANY ACIZ (Secaucus, NJ/Secaucus) had seven kills, 10 assists and 12 digs for Montclair State.
