Upper Montclair, NJ (10/05/02) - The Montclair State University men's soccer team played to a double-overtime scoreless tie against nationally-ranked Rowan University today at MSU Soccer Park at Pittser Field. Rowan had bested MSU, 2-0, last season.
Montclair is now 7-2-2 overall and 2-1-1 in New Jersey Athletic Conference action, after playing to its second scoreless tie in its last three outings. The NJAC-leading Profs are now 10-0-1 overall and 4-0-1 in the conference.
Sophomore goalkeeper CHRIS OWEN (Pompton Lakes, NJ/Pompton Lakes) finished with nine saves and his seventh shutout this season for the Red Hawks, including two point-blank stops in the second sudden-death overtime period. Junior teammate STEVE LEONARD (Pompton Plains, NJ/Pequannock) also blocked a point-blank Prof chance after Owen had made the initial save. Rowan senior netminder DAN McGINN (Lower Cape May Reg./Cape May Beach, NJ) finished with two saves and his fourth shutout as Rowan outshot MSU, 20-14, and also had a wide margin in corner kicks, 18-2.
MSU is now 4-0-1 at home this fall and will host Neumann (PA) College on Thursday, Oct. 10, at 3:00 p.m.
