Women's Soccer Tripped up in ECAC Championship by Stockton

Upper Montclair, NJ (11/17/02) — Upper Montclair, NJ - Freshman forward KARI DEVINE (East Brunswick, NJ/East Brunswick) knocked in a shot off a corner kick 7:05 into overtime to lift second-seeded Richard Stockton College to the 2002 ECAC Division III Metro Women's Soccer Championship as the Opsreys topped No. 1 seed Montclair State, 2-1 at a rainy Sprague Field on Sunday evening.

LAURA FEDERICO (Pittsgrove, NJ/A.P. Shalick) had a goal for the Ospreys (16-4-3), who avenged a 1-0 loss at home to Montclair State back on November 2nd. The Red Hawks (12-7-2), who captured the ECAC title in 2000, finished as the runner-up for a second straight season.

With 2:55 left in the first overtime period, Stockton was awarded a corner kick. STACEY CHABOT (Forked River, NJ/Lacey) lofted the kick into the middle of the goal area where DAWN BELAMARICH (Forked River, NJ/Lacey) took a shot that bounced off a defender and out to Devine, who blasted a shot into the left side of the goal for the game-winner.

The Ospreys took a 1-0 lead 13:07 into the match as Federico took a crossing pass from KRISTIE ABBOTT (Manahawkin, NJ/Southern Regional) and knocked in a shot from five yards out on the left side. However, Montclair would tie the match three minutes later as STEPHANIE SABALIAUSKAS (Edison, NJ/Mt. St. Mary Academy) headed in a corner kick from KELLY DUTKO (Hamilton, NJ/Steinert).

Senior midfielder KATIE RUDOLPH (Monroeville, NJ/Delsea) was named the Most Valuable Player in the Tournament.

For Richard Stockton, which outshot MSU, 11-8, BECKY BAISLEY (Browns Mills, NJ/Pemberton) had two saves while the Red Hawks' STEPHANIE ROMANKO (North Brunswick, NJ/North Brunswick) made four saves in her final game. Romanko closed out her career as the all-time NCAA Division III leader in minutes played with 7,842:04.
