Trawick Named MVP as Red Hawks Win MSU Tip-Off Tournament

Upper Montclair, NJ - Junior center JEROME TRAWICK (Newark, NJ/Clifford Scott) posted his second straight double-double with 14 points and 14 rebounds as Montclair State knocked off Trinity (CT) College, 64-57, in the Championship Game of the MSU Tip-Off Tournament at Panzer Gymnasium on Saturday afternoon.

Freshman ANTWAN DOZIER (Pleasantville, NJ/Pleasantville) scored a game-high 19 points as the Red Hawks (2-0), used a 13-4 run to open the second half en route to the victory. Ryan Usezenski (Woodbridge, NJ/St. Joseph's) had 14 points and nine rebounds for the Bantams (1-1), who shot just 1-of-19 from three-point range in the contest.

MSU led 31-30 at the half but opened the second half with five straight points as Trawick had three and Dozier hit a basket to make the score 36-30. After a Trinity score, MICHAEL DAVIS (Atlantic City, NJ/Atlantic City) and Dozier each hit free throws before SCOTT MORIN (Cliffside Park, NJ/Cliffside Park) hit a basket for an eight-point MSU advantage with 15:55 to play. Halas scored to cut the lead to 40-34, but Trawick made a layup and JOEY MATIAS (Union City, NJ/Emerson) added another layup for a 44-34 lead with 12:53 left.

Trinity came back and cut the lead 57-55 with 2:33 to play as Halas hit two free throws. But MSU responded as ELLIS SHERROD (Newark, NJ/Parsippany) scored on a three-point play moments later to restore the lead to five with 2:11 left. Montclair then went on to hit 4-of-6 free throws in the final moments.

MICHAEL GLUCK (Union, NJ/Union) had seven points and eight rebounds for the Red Hawks, who shot just 38 percent from the field, but outshot Trinity at the free throw line 15-of-26 to 6-of-12. Corey Davis (Baltimore, MD/Boys' Latin) added 10 points, seven rebounds and five blocks for Trinity.
