Allen Paces Women's Basketball in Win Over New England College

Upper Montclair, NJ (11/24/02) - Freshman forward EBONY ALLEN (Camden, NJ/Woodrow Wilson) scored 25 points and grabbed seven rebounds as Montclair State defeated New England College, 85-58 in the second day of action at the Ford Friendship Tournament at Panzer Gymnasium on Sunday afternoon.

Senior center JASMINE BATTS (Carteret, NJ/Carteret) added 14 points and 13 rebounds for the Red Hawks, who went 2-0 in the tournament. Senior Amy Hendricks (Poplar Bluff, MO) had 22 points for New England College, which managed just 29 percent (22-of-76) shooting from the field in the game.

Allen was 6-of-6 from the field and scored 14 points as Montclair State built a 42-21 halftime lead. Trailing 16-15 with 9:43 to play, the Red Hawks went on a 22-3 run over the next seven minutes. COURTNEY EPPS (Montclair, NJ/Montclair) nailed a three-pointer to ignite the run and Batts followed with a jumper before Allen scored on a layup for a 22-18 lead. Allen added another layup before Kayla Bewersdorff (Forest Grove, OR) hit a free throw for New England. Montclair then scored the next 13 points as five different players scored including VANESSA DEFREITAS (Kearny, NJ/Kearny) had four and Allen added three.

AMANDA MULLANEY (Brooklyn, NY/Bishop Ford) added 11 points and eight rebounds for MSU, which outrebounded the Pilgrims (1-1), 56-39. The Red Hawks shot 50 percent (34-of-68) from the field in the game and converted 10-of-13 at the free-throw line. Johanna Rodden (Rollinsford, NH) had 12 points for New England College.

Allen and Batts were named to the All-Tournament Team along with Hendricks. Rutgers-Newark's Ginger Quinones and Kelly Wismuller of Brooklyn College rounded out the All-Tournament Team.
