JOSEPH THOMAS (Linden, NJ/Linden) scored 13 points and grabbed a team high eight rebounds as Montclair State remained unbeaten with a 73-47 victory over Eastern Connecticut in the Red Hawk Holiday Tournament Saturday afternoon.
The Red Hawks will face Baruch College in the championship round Saturday afternoon at 3:00 pm. Baruch defeated Susquehanna College 79-68 earlier in the day. Montclair State (8-0) is off to their best start since the 1983-84 season, where they began 10-0.
Michael Kipphut (Meriden, CT/F.T. Maloney) had 10 points for Eastern Connecticut (3-5). The Warriors will take on Susquehanna University in the consolation game set for 1:00 pm on Saturday.
The Red Hawks led 16-15 with 9:33 to play before embarking on a 15-0 run over the next six minutest to take a 31-15 advantage. Thomas contributed five points and two steals, while
ANTWAN DOZIER (Pleasantville, NJ/Pleasantville) and
PIERRE MITCHELL (Newark, NJ/East Side) each had three. Dozier finished with 7 rebounds on the day for MSU, which outrebounded Eastern Connecticut 41-32.
