San Diego, CA (12/30/02) - Senior center JASMINE BATTS (Carteret, NJ/Carteret) scored 24 points and pulled seven rebounds as the Montclait State women's basketball team finished in fifth place at the San Diego Surf n' Slam Tournament with an 83-66 win over NJAC rival Rowan University on Monday afternoon. The tournament was played at Point Loma Nazarene University.

The Red Hawks won for the fourth time in their last six games and posted their second victory over the Profs this month. MSU (7-3) defeated the Profs, 63-60 at Panzer Gymnasium on December 7th, rallying from a 12-point deficit in the final nine minutes.

Junior guard VANESSA DEFREITAS (Kearny, NJ/Kearny) had 21 points while freshman EBONY ALLEN (Camden, NJ/Woodrow Wilson) scored 17 and grabbed eight rebounds.

Despite being outshot in the first half 57-42 percent, Montclair built a 48-33 halftime lead. DYETTE DILLARD (Willingboro, NJ/Willingboro) had six points and seven rebounds off the bench as Montclair State outrebounded Rowan, 46-35.

MSU finished 2-1 in the tournament winning the last two games after suffering a 64-63 loss to Wisconsin-Whitewater in the opener.
