Rowan Takes Down Women's Lacrosse

Upper Montclair, NJ (3/30/02) -- Sophomore attack KEELY O'BRIEN (Chatham, NJ/Chatham) and REBECCA PETERSON (Hancocks Bridge, NJ/Salem) each scored five goals as Rowan University defeated Montclair State, 21-11 in NCAA Division III Women's Lacrosse action at Sprague Field on Saturday evening.

MORGAN LANG (Cherry Hill, NJ/Cherry Hill West) had four goals and two assists for the Profs (6-1), who rallied back from a 6-2 deficit in the first half. JODI GANGEMI (Fairfield, NJ/West Essex) scored five goals for Montclair State while KRISTEN MISKEY (Mt. Laurel, NJ/Lenape) added three.

Trailing 6-2, the Profs scored four straight over a nine-minute span to tie the game at 6-6. MORIAH HOLMSTROM (Alloway, NJ/Woodstown) began the run with a goal at 17:46 before O'Brien cut the deficit to two with a tally at 21:13. Peterson's first goal of the game got the Profs within 6-5 and TIFFANY MARTINEZ (Toms River, NJ/Toms River North) tied the game with 3:38 before halftime. MSU's DONNA RUSSO (Matawan, NJ/Bridgewater-Raritan) put the Red Hawks ahead 7-6 with a goal at the 27:03 mark, but Rowan scored the final four goals of the half - two by Lang - to take a 10-7 halftime advantage.

Gangemi scored the 100th goal of her career at the 14:59 mark of the first half. She is the second player in MSU history to reach the mark. Jeanelle Husth recorded 151 in her career from 1997-2000. Gangemi's fourth goal in the second half got Montclair within 11-10 with 23:29 left, but Rowan answered with five straight scores, including two each by Holmstrom and Peterson.

MAVREEN HERRING (Voorhees, NJ/Eastern Regional) made nine saves in goal for Rowan while Montclair's DIANA GIL (Landing, NJ/Roxbury) had 10 saves. Rowan outshot the Red Hawks, 31-22.
