Upper Montclair, NJ (4/13/02) - Sophomore attack CATHY HOMIEK (Toms River, NJ/Toms River East) scored five goals and tied her own school-record with seven assists as Montclair State defeated Kean University, 19-9 in NCAA Division III Women's Lacrosse action on Saturday afternoon.
JODI GANGEMI (Fairfield, NJ/West Essex) added seven goals and an assist for the Red Hawks (4-4), who scored the first seven goals of the game. STEFANIE SINISCALCHI (Manalapan, NJ/St. John Vianney) and CANDICE ZANE (Freehold, NJ/Freehold Boro) each had three goals for the Cougars (2-8).
Gangemi scored 3:44 into the contest to give the Red Hawks a 1-0 lead. Homiek scored 41 seconds later and LISA D'ARIES (Toms River, NJ/Toms River East) gave MSU a 3-0 advantage at 7:19. Gangemi and Homiek then posted goals in the eighth and ninth minutes, respectively, for a 5-0 lead. LEA SMITH (Littlestown, PA/Littlestown) added a marker at 10:14 and KRISTEN MISKEY's (Mt. Laurel, NJ/Lenape) goal with 14:38 left in the half gave Montclair State a 7-0 lead.
Siniscalchi's goal with 14:18 left in the period got Kean on the board, but Montclair answered with three straight as JESS HANN (Washington, NJ/Warren Hills), Gangemi and DONNA RUSSO (Matawan, NJ/Bridgewater-Raritan) each scored once as MSU took a 12-3 lead into halftime.
MSU's DIANA GIL (Landing, NJ/Roxbury) made 10 saves in goal for the Red Hawks. ANU BEDI (Edison, NJ/J.P. Stevens) had seven in goal for Kean. Montclair State outshot the Cougars, 27-22.
