Women's Lacrosse Cruises Past Centenary, 22-4

Hackettstown, NJ (4/16/02) - Sophomore attack CATHY HOMIEK (Toms River, NJ/Toms River East) scored four times and set the single-game and single-season record for assists as Montclair State defeated Centenary College, 22-4 in NCAA Division III Women's Lacrosse action on Tuesday afternoon.

JODI GANGEMI (Fairfield, NJ/West Essex) added seven goals for the second straight game for the Red Hawks (5-4),who climbed over the .500 mark for the first time this season. Homiek tallied eight in the game, breaking the mark of seven she set in the previous game against Kean on Saturday. The sophomore, who already holds the career mark, has 41 on the season, breaking the mark of 40 she set in 2001.

Tied at 1-1, the Red Hawks scored 10 straight gaosl. Gangemi began the run with 18:24 to play in the period and LEA SMITH (Littlestown, PA/Littlestown) scored for a 3-1 MSU advantage. Homiek scored with at the 28:51 mark of the half and Gangemi netted her second a minute later for a four-goal lead before LISA D'ARIES (Toms River, NJ/Toms River East) scored 20 seconds after that.

Homiek and Gangemi then alternated scoring on the final five goals as MSU took an 11-2 lead at halftime.

DIANA GIL (Landing, NJ/Roxbury) made 10 saves for the Red Hawks, who outshot Centenary, 39-14 in the contest.
