Purchase, NY (04/20/02) - The Montclair State University women's lacrosse team lost their second straight game on Saturday afternoon as they fell at Manhattanville College, 17-8. The defeat dropped the Red Hawks' record to 5-6 on the year.
JODI GANGEMI (Fairfield, NJ/West Essex) scored three goals and CATHY HOMIEK (Toms River, NJ/TRoms River South) had a goal and three assists as she broke the Montclair State single-season record for points scored.
The Valiants jumped on the board first just 55 seconds into the game on Liz McNamee's team-leading 47th goal of the season. After freshman April Yeomans (Lindenhurst, NY) put the home team up by a 2-0 score just 2:24 into the first half, the Red Hawks jumped on the board with a goal by LEA SMITH (Littlestown, PA/Littlestown) to make it 2-1. However, the Valiants closed the opening half on a 4-1 run and held a 6-2 advantage at the intermission.
McNamee and the rest of the Valiants offense came alive in the second half as they rattled off 12 goals to roll to the victory. In the half, Frattarola and McNamee combined for 10 of the 12 goals, with the other tallies coming from Yeomans and freshman Amy Taylor (Bowdoin, ME).
Homiek her own single-season mark of 72 set last season. The sophomore has 76 on the season and 148 in her two seasons. Homiek already owns the single-season and career marks for assists.
