Norton, MA (08/31) – The Montclair State University women's soccer team bounced back from a season-opening loss on Friday with a 2-0 victory over Endicott College at the Adidas Classic held at Wheaton College. MSU finished third in the tournament.
LIZ D'ALTO (Clifton, NJ) and JESS AMENDOLA (Union, NJ) each scored a goal while STEPHANIE ROMANKO (North Brunswick, NJ) stopped four shots.
D'Alto got the Red Hawks (1-1) on the board in the second half as she snapped a scoreless tie with her first tally of the season in the 60th minute. D'Alto rifled a shot into the left corner of the goal.
Amendola would add an insurance goal just over seven minutes later as she scores her first collegiate goal lofting a shot past Endocitt goalkeeper SARAH NICHOLS. Sophomore GABBY WHITE (Garwood, NJ) assisted on both scores.
Romanko posted her first shutout of the season and 34th of her career. The MSU defense limited the Gulls (0-2) to just five shots on the day. Meanwhile, Montclair recorded 14 shots in the game.
Romanko was named to the All-Tournament Team.
The Red Hawks are off until Thursday, September 12th when they host Centenary College (NJ) at Sprague Field in the home opener. Game time is 8:00 pm.
