Scranton, PA (9/14/02) - The Montclair State volleyball team closed out action at the Scranton University Invitational on Saturday afternoon with a split of their two matches.
The Red Hawks (3-3) defeated College Misericordia, 3-0 before falling to Elizabethtown in a five-game match, 3-2. MSU lost both of its matches on the first day and finished 1-3 in the two-day tournament.
Sophomore hitter
TIFFANY ACIZ (Secaucus, NJ/Secaucus) had 14 kills, 13 digs, two assists and three aces in the win over Misericordia as the Red Hawks won 30-23, 33-31, 30-27.
JENNIFER OLAN (Jersey City, NJ/Academic) had 41 assists while
STACEY JOHNSON (Paterson, NJ/Passaic County Tech) had 11 kills.
In the final match versus Elizabethtown, MSU won the first game, 30-27, but dropped the next two, 30-14 and 30-24. The Red Hawks then re-tied the match with a 30-20 win on Game 4, however, the Blue Jays took the final game, 15-4.
Olan had 33 assists and 14 digs, while Flavia Viega (Belen, Brazil/Sophos) and Aciz each had 10 kills. Aciz recorded 18 digs while Veiga had 11.
CARMEN ALVARADO (Newark, NJ/Barringer) added 10 kills, while Johnson had three kills and 12 digs.
The Red Hawks return to action on Tuesday, September 17th at the travel to Richard Stockton for an NJAC matchup at 7:00 pm. MSU is currently 1-0 in the NJAC.
