Camden, NJ (9/21/02) - The Montclair State University women's soccer team played to its second straight 0-0 double-overtime tie today, this time at Rutgers-Camden in MSU's 2002 New Jersey Athletic Conference opener.
Montclair also finished in a scoreless deadlock at New York University on Wednesday night.
Senior goalkeeper STEPHANIE ROMANKO (N. Brunswick, NJ/N. Brunswick) finished with two saves for the Red Hawks (2-3-2) in recording her 36th career shutout. The tie marked the first time in four meetings that Rutgers-Camden has escaped with a point against the Red Hawks, who won last year's contest, 1-0, in overtime, in Upper Montclair. MSU also posted victories over R-C in 2000 (4-1) and 1999 (6-0).
Montclair State outshot Rutgers-Camden, 15-8, today, while the Raptors held an 8-6 edge in corner kicks. Rutgers-Camden had a golden scoring chance with 14 minutes left in regulation when a shot by senior forward MARY ANN MARTELL (Bensalem, PA/Archbishop Ryan) was headed off the crossbar on a Montclair State backsave, and the rebound was cleared by the Red Hawks.
MSU seeks to break a four-game scoreless streak on Wednesday, Sept. 25, when it hosts NJAC rival Rutgers-Newark at 8:00 p.m. at Sprague Field.
