Women's Soccer, Stockton Battle to Scoreless Draw

Upper Montclair, NJ (10/31/03) - They played 110 minutes of soccer at Sprague Field on Halloween evening, but in the end there was no winner as Montclair State, ranked 20th in Division III, and Richard Stockton played to a scoreless tie in New Jersey Athletic Conference women's soccer action on Friday.

Despite the tie, the Red Hawks (12-4-1) captured their first-ever NJAC regular season championship and the No. 1 seed in the upcoming conference tournament, which begins on Monday, November 3rd.

MSU, which fell in the NJAC title game last season, will have a first-round bye in the six-team tournament and will face either the No. 4 or No. 5 seed in the semifinals on Wednesday, November 5th at MSU Soccer Park. Montclair State finished 7-1-1 in the league in the regular-season while Richard Stockton dropped to 6-2-1 in the NJAC and 13-3-1 overall. The Ospreys will either be the No. 2 or No. 3 seed in the tournament. The full bracket will be announced on Saturday evening.

Stockton's Becky Baisley (Browns Mills, NJ/Pemberton) made three saves while the Red Hawks SUSAN HINDS (Westfield, NJ/Westfield) posted her eighth shutout of the season. Baisley recorded her sixth shutout of the season.

Richard Stockton held the advantage in shots in the contest, 6-4, but it was Montclair State that had the best scoring opportunity. With 21:30 left in the game JESS AMENDOLA (Union, NJ/Union) corralled a loose ball and fired a shot from 10 yards out on the right side. The ball bent toward the goal and got past a diving Baisley, however, the ball ricocheted off the outside of the far post. Earlier in the period, Baisley also stopped a shot by Amendola and made a sprawling save on DARA NALVEN's (Old Bridge, NJ/Old Bridge) shot from the left side.
