Women's Soccer Clipped by Stockton in ECAC Championship

Upper Montclair, NJ (11/15/03) - Richard Stockton College, seeded second in the 2003 Eastern College Athletic Conference Division III Metro Tournament, won its second straight ECAC title and fourth overall by defeating top-seeded Montclair State today at Sprague Field.

The game was tied,1 -1, after 110 minutes of play and is officially recorded as a tie, although Stockton claimed the championship by winning on penalty kicks, 4-2.

The visiting Ospreys also topped MSU last season, 2-1 in overtime, at Sprague Field to win the ECACs. Montclair (14-5-2 overall) has finished as runner-up the last three seasons after winning the ECAC crown in 2000.

Stockton goalkeeper Becky Baisley (Browns Mills, NJ) stopped seven MSU shots in regulation and two more in the shootout to claim this year's ECAC Metro Most Valuable Player honors.

STEPHANIE SANTOS (East Hanover, NJ) scored Montclair's lone goal of the game with 13:59 remaining in regulation in her final Red Hawk game, scoring off the far left post on a breakaway after taking a pass from ANNETTE BEDNARZ (Clifton, NJ ) but Stacey Chabot (Forked River, NJ) tied it unassisted for the Ospreys (15-4-2 overall) just 2:49 later.

Chabot later scored the decisive penalty kick goal that put Stockton ahead for good, before Denise Prosser (Sicklerville, NJ) collected an insurance tally. SUSAN HINDS (Westfield, NJ) had two saves in regulation and one in the shootout for Montclair, which outshot Stockton, 16-8, and also had seven of the game's 10 corner kicks.
