Garden City, NY(11/18/03) - The Montclair State men's and women's swimming and diving teams split in their respective dual meets with Division II Adelphi University on Tuesday evening. The women's team fell to 0-3 with a 49-46 loss to the Panthers while the men's squad (1-2) earned its first victory of the year with a 54-37 triumph.
SHANE SCHWARZ (Monmouth Beach, NJ/Shore Regional) led the MSU men's team as he took two first-place finishes. Schwarz captures the 200 freestyle (1:58.77) and later won the 200 fly (2:18.4).
PETER SINAGRA (North Bergen, NJ/St. Joseph's) won the 1000 freestyle (11:17.32) while
DREW DECAGNA (Springfield, NJ/Jonathan Dayton) finished first in the 200 breaststroke with a time of 2:38.09. Freshman
MOHAMED ABDELAAL (Bayonne, NJ/Bayonne) earned the other first-place finish for MSU has he took first place in the 100 freestyle (55.23). The Red Hawks also captured both the 400 Medley and Freestyle relays.
On the women's side,
COLLEEN GRIFFIN (Bloomfield, NJ/Lacaodaire Academy) was a double-winner as she swept both the 50 and 100 freestyle races for the second straight meet. Griffin won the 50 freestyle in a time of 26.49 and earned first in the 100 with a time of 56.09.
RACHEL YANNUZZI (Fairview, NJ/Paramus Catholic) was the only other first-place finisher for MSU as she took the honors in the 200 breaststroke (2:50.12). Griffin and Yanuzzi teammed with
ADRIENNE RICHARDI (Randolph, NJ/Randolph) and
DIANA GIL (Landing, NJ/Roxbury) to win the 400 Medley relay (4:53.24).
The Red Hawks return to action on Friday, November 21 as they compete in the two-day, Kutztown Invitational in Pennsylvania. Last season,MSU placed a combined third as the men finished third in the meet while the women were fourth.
