DYETTE DILLARD (Willingboro, NJ/Willingboro) posted a double-double with a career-high 21 points and added 11 rebounds as Montclair State remained unbeaten with an 85-72 victory over Ramapo College in a New Jersey Athletic Conference Women's Basketball inter-divisional matchup at Panzer Gymnasium on Wednesday evening.
Freshman center
STEPHANIE MACHIN (New Providence, NJ/New Providence) added a double-double of her own (13 points, 13 rebounds) as the Red Hawks improved to 6-0 overall and 2-0 in the NJAC. MSU is off to its best start since the 1990-91 campaign when it opened the year at 10-0.
Janine Cappadona (Atlantic Highlands, NJ/Red Bank) had a game-high 24 points for the Roadrunners (5-3, 1-2), who had their two-game win streak snapped.
It is the only regular-season meeting between the teams as they play in opposite divisions in the new-look NJAC. Montclair is in the Blue Division, while Ramapo is in the Gold Division.

KRISTEN POTENZONE (Totowa, NJ/DePaul) scored three seconds into the game, but Ramapo took control scoring 14 of the next 16 points in the game. Danielle Hunt (Englewood, NJ/Dwight Murrow) scored four points in the spurt and a basket by Keona Palmer (Port Reading, NJ/Woodbridge) gave Ramapo a 14-4 lead with 14 minutes left. However, Montclair State responded with a 19-5 run over the next six minutes to take lead for good. Dillard had five points in the run and
SHIKEENA LYNARD's (Carney's Point, NJ/Penns Grove) layup put MSU in front 20-19 with nine minutes to play before half.
VANESSA DEFREITAS (Kearny, NJ/Kearny) had four points in that span and capped the run with a layup to give MSU a 23-19 advantage.
Hunt would tie the game at 23-23 with 6:36 to go, but Machin scored twice and Potenzone added a three-pointer as the Red Hawks rebuilt the lead to seven en route to a 36-28 lead at the break.
In the second half, DeFreitas converted a three-point play to give MSU a 39-28 lead, however, the Roadrunner were able to chip away at the deficit and cut the lead to four on two occasions, the last time coming with 10:54 left as Hunt sank a short jumper to make the score, 54-50. PAM BARONE (Staten Island, NY/St. John Villa Academy) made the score 59-52. After a pair of free throws by Lisa Belly (Woodbridge, NJ/Woodbridge), Dillard drained a long three to put Montclair in front 64-52 with 6:35 to play. The Red Hawks led by double-digits the rest of the way.
Barone finished with 17 points for Montclair State, which also got 11 points and career-high 11 assists from DeFreitas. Stephanie Pillari (Westwood, NJ/Westwood) had 15 points and nine rebounds for the Roadrunners, who committed 23 turnovers and shot 6-of-21 from beyond the arc. The Red Hawks were 10-of-29 from three-point range and won despite being outrebounded in the contest, 48-42. .
