DUQUAN EVERETT (Orange, NJ/Orange), who was named the Most Outstanding Player, posted a double-double with 25 points and 12 rebounds as Montclair State completed its Arizona trip with a 71-49 victory over Husson College (ME) in the Grand Canyon Trips Sports Classic on Wednesday evening.
PIERRE MITCHELL (Newark, NJ/East Side) added 15 points - all on three-pointer as the Red Hawks (5-2) won their second straight and finished 2-0 in the eight-team tournament.
Everett posted his third double-double of the season and second straight as he connected on 11-of-21 attempts from the field and also added three assists. Mitchell connected on 5-of-8 attempts from beyond the arc as MSU jumped out to a 35-23 lead at halftime.
Junior guard
LAMONT NEWELL (Lodi, NJ/Dwight Murrow), who was named the NJAC Player of the Week for his 22-point effort against Goucher, added six assists, four rebounds and four steals with
GIAN PAUL GONZALEZ (No. Haledon, NJ/Manchester Regional) collecting six points and seven rebounds.
Everett and Gonzalez were named to the All-Tournament Team.
The Red Hawks the 2004 portion of their schedule on Monday, January 5, as they travel to Hackettstown, NJ to face Centenary College. Last season, MSU recorded a 94-50 victory over the Cyclones in the season-opening MSU Tip-Off Tournament.
Montclair State is in the midst of a nine-game stretch away from Panzer Gymnasium. MSU does not return home until January 21 when they host rival William Paterson.
