MSU Falls to Ramap, 64-54

Upper Montclair, NJ - Junior guard Charles Ransom (Jersey City, NJ/Dickinson) scored 18 points and Amin Wright (Jersey City, NJ/Ferris) added 13 points and six rebounds as Ramapo College remained atop the New Jersey Athletic Conference Men's Basketball standings with a 64-54 victory over Montclair State at Panzer Gymansium on Saturday afternoon.

Rasheen Gadsen (Jersey City, NJ/Dickinson) had seven points and 10 rebounds for the Roadrunners (17-2, 11-1 NJAC), who have won 10 straight games and defeated MSU for the second time in 10 days. Ramapo posted an 84-81 win in Mahwah on January 22. Freshman forward ANTWAN DOZIER (Pleasantville, NJ/Pleasantville) had 17 points and nine rebounds for the Red Hawks (15-3, 9-3 NJAC), who played without starting center JEROME TRAWICK (Newark, NJ/Clifford Scott). Trawick missed the game with a foot injury. The loss was also MSU's first at home this season in 11 games.

The Roadrunners jumped out to a nine point lead in the first 9:24 thanksin part to a solid defense that held the Red Hawks to just one field goal in their first 12 attempts. Jay DeGrota (Middletown, NY/Middletown), Tennyson Whitted (Jersey City, NJ/St. Anthony's) and Gadsen each scored baskets to give Ramapo a 6-0 lead. AfterMontclair scored the next four points, Greg McBain (Waldwick, NJ/Waldwick) hit two free throws, Ransom mnailed a three pointer and Whitted added a steal and a layup for a 13-4 advantage. The Red Hawks pulled within three points twice, the last time coming with 2:25 to play as PIERRE MITCHELL's (Newark, NJ/East Side) three cut the lead to 26-23. However, Jared Milligan (Ringwood, NJ/Lakeland Regional)) answered for Ramapo with a layup and Wright scored a basket to give the Roadrunners a 30-24 lead heading into intermission.

Montclair would get within a point early in the second half and as close as 53-50 with 5:01 to play as MICHAEL DAVIS (Atlantic City, NJ/Atlantic City) scored on a layup. However, Ransom buried a three pointer to restore the lead to six and the Roadrunners were on their way to the 10-point victory.

Mitchell finished 11 points for the Red Hawks, who were outrebounded 47-34 in the game. Montclair was also on the wrong side of the free-throw shooting statistic as they were just 4-of-9 (44 percent) from the charity strip. Meanwhile Ramapo converted 20-of-23 (87 percent), including 13-of-16 in the second half.
