JASMINE BATTS (Carteret, NJ/Carteret) scored 18 points and became the newest member of the Montclair State 1,000-point club as the Red Hawks won their fourth straight, defeating New Jersey City University, 84-43 in New Jersey Athletic Conference Women's Basketball action at Panzer Gymnasium on Wednesday evening.

EBONY ALLEN (Camden, NJ/Woodrow Wilson) had a game-high 20 points for the Red Hawks (12-7, 7-6 NJAC), who have averaged 82 points per game during their win streak. Bernice Amadeo (Bayonne, NJ/Bayonne) had a career-high 17 points for the Gothic Knights (4-16, 1-12 NJAC).
Montclair State jumped out to a 16-2 lead in the first five plus minutes. Batts scored all eight of her first half including the 1,000th of her career. The senior became the 13th player in MSU history to surpass the millennium mark as she hit the first of two free throws with 16:40 to play. Batts now has 1,013 points.
Allen had 13 points in the first half as the Red Hawks led 38-16 at intermission. MSU limited the Gothic Knights to just 21 percent shooting (7-of-33) and outrebounded NJCU, 32-18. Batts added eight rebounds, three assists and four steals while
DYETTE DILLARD (Willingboro, NJ/Willingboro) scored 11 points and handed out five assists. Senior
STEPHANIE CROLEY (Piscataway, NJ/Piscataway) scored 10 points as the Red Hawks had four players in double figures. Megan Kabba (Newark, NJ/Arts) had nine points and seven rebounds for New Jersey City.
Prior to the game, Montclair State honored their 1977-78 Association of Intercollegiate Athletics for Women (AIAW) Final Four Team on their 25th Anniversary of their memorable season. Included in that group were all-time great and Naismith Basketball Hall of Famer Carol Blazejowski, current NJCU head coach Alice Schmidt DeFazio, former Montclair State head coach Jill Jeffrey along with teammates Pat Quilty, Pat Fixter and Cathy Meyers and head coach Maureen Wendelken. That team finished 25-7 that season and placed third at the AIAW Championships held at Pauley Pavilion at UCLA. Montclair lost to UCLA led by Ann Meyers in the semifinal round, 85-77 before defeating Wayland Baptist, 90-88 in the Consolation Game.
