Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Men's Soccer Clips King's 1-0

Upper Montclair, NJ (09/15/03) -- Senior midfielder STEVE LEONARD (Pompton Plains, NJ/Pequannock) headed in a corner kick in the 20th minute of play to account for all the scoring at the Montclair State University men's soccer team, ranked sixth in NCAA Division III, defeated visiting King's (PA) College today, 1-0, at MSU Soccer Park at Pittser Field.

Montclair improves to 5-1 overall this year, while King's falls to 2-4. It was also the third shutout victory of the season for the Red Hawks, who saw their season-opening four-game win streak snapped in their last game out, a 1-0 loss at No. 9 Johns Hopkins (MD) on Wednesday, Sept. 10.

Leonard tallied his first goal of the fall at the left post of the King's net, heading in a corner kick from the right side by MSU sophomore midfielder SEAN HORAN (Tinton Falls, NJ/Red Bank Catholic) just 19:53 into the game. Sophomore goalkeeper EDGARD DINTEN (Old Bridge, NJ/Old Bridge), making his first-ever appearance in the Red Hawk goal, made the goal stand up with two saves in recording his first-ever victory and shutout.

Sophomore netminder Dan Upton (Bloomsburg, PA/Bloomsburg) stopped eight shots for the visiting Monarchs, who were outshot, 21-10, and outcornered, 10-2. Montclair freshman forward RYAN MORGAN (Princeton, NJ/Princeton) led all players with five shots.

The Red Hawks return to action on Wednesday afternoon when they visit FDU-Florham at 3:30 p.m. Montclair topped the Devils, 3-1, a year ago at MSU Soccer Park. King's will drop in on FDU-Florham on Saturday, Sept. 20.
