Women's Basketball Rebounds; Tops St. Mary's

St. Mary's City, MD (1/10/04) Sophomore forward EBONY ALLEN was a perfect 8-for-8 from the field, scoring a game-high 19 points and adding seven rebounds in leading Montclair State University to an 82-65 non-conference victory over St. Mary's College (MD) on Saturday afternoon.

With the win, the Red Hawks improve to 10-1 overall on the season, while the Seahawks fall to 4-8 overall with the loss.

Allen was one of four players in double figures for the Red Hawks, who held a 41-24 lead at halftime. Senior guard DYETTE DILLARD scored 17 points while senior guard PAM BARONE scored 15 points and added a team-high four assists. Sophomore reserve center AMANDA MULLANEY added 11 points. Freshman center STEPHANIE MACHIN controlled the interior for Montclair State by adding six points and a game-high 12 rebounds. She also contributed with four steals and four blocks.

All five starters for the Seahawks scored in double figures, led by senior guard Kristin Francis (West Hartford, CT/Conard) with 14 points and a team-high seven rebounds. Senior forward Mary Kate Lenz (Frederick, MD/Urbana) scored 13 points as did sophomore guard Katie Greenberg (Gaithersburg, MD/Georgetown Visitation). Greenberg also added five assists. Junior guard Amanda Polidoro (Ossining, NY/Ossining) contributed with 12 points and four steals, while senior guard Megan Baskins (Hughson, CA/Hughson) added 11 points, five assists, and four steals.

The Red Hawks shot a blistering 54.4 percent from the field on 31-of-57 shooting. The Seahawks connected on 24-of-62 attempts for 38.7 percent. Both teams had problems maintaining possession during the contest with Montclair committing 21 turnovers, while St. Mary's (MD) had 19 of their own.
