Upper Montclair, NJ (1/17/04) – The Montclair State men's and women's swimming and diving teams were swept in today's dual meet against visiting Rowan University at MSU's Panzer Pool. The MSU men fell, 120-87, to fall to 2-5 overall on the season, while the MSU women (0-8 overall) came up on the short end of a 121-86 result. Both Rowan teams are now 5-0 on the 2003-04 campaign.
Rowan junior Chris Swenson (Scotch Plains, NJ/ Scotch Plains-Fanwood) set a new Panzer Pool record in the Men's 200 Breaststroke by finishing in a time of 2:12.79 minutes. He also helped the visiting Profs to victory in the Men's 400 Medley Relay in 3:39.28. Freshman Chris Martin (Toms River, NJ/Toms River S.) set another Panzer record by winning the Men's 200 Free in 1:52.93. Montclair State junior
MARK JAMIESON (Ocean City, NJ/Ocean City) placed second in the Men's 50 Free in 25.19 seconds, behind Rowan senior Mike Cervi (Marmora, NJ/Mainland Reg.)(23.06). Taking first place in the Men's 1-Meter Dive was Rowan freshman Jeff Brinberg (Ventnor, NJ/Atlantic City) with a score of 150.50, while Brinberg also took first in the Men's 3-Meter Dive (198.65). ERIC LOREE (Norwood, NJ/Old Tappan) took second in the 1-Meter (120.55) and third in the 3-Meter (138.90).
On the women's side, Rowan senior Kate Taranella (Lavalette, NJ/Toms River E.) won the Women's 50 Free in 25.65 seconds, finishing just 0.35 ahead of Montclair senior
COLLEEN GRIFFIN (Bloomfield, NJ/Lacordaire Academy). Taranella also helped the Profs triumph in the Women's 400 Free Relay in 3:53.09. minutes. Rowan freshman Laura Kuczynski (Sayreville, NJ/Sayreville War Mem.) took the Women's 1000 Free in 11:22.73, while senior Dianne Barclay (Rockaway, NJ/Morristown) claimed the Women's 200 Free in 2:05.84.
