AMANDA MULLANEY (Brooklyn, NY/Bishop Ford) and freshman center
STEPHANIE MACHIN (New Providence, NJ/New Providence) each posted a double-double as Montclair State snapped a two-game losing streak in a big way with a resounding 88-32 win over Lehman College at Panzer Gymnasium on Monday afternoon.
The game, which was rescheduled from December 6, was part of the New Jersey Athletic Conference/CUNYAC Challenge.
Snyder had 16 points and 11 rebounds while Machin, who was named the NJAC Rookie of the Week for the third time this season on Monday, posted 19 points and 10 rebounds with Mullaney coming off the bench to add 11 points and a game-high 12 rebounds.
Shatasia Little (Bronx, NY/Grant St. Campus) had 17 points and nine rebounds for the Lightning (3-13), who had their two-game win streak snapped.
Montclair State jumped out to a 14-4 lead in the first seven minutes as Snyder scored four points in the spurt. Lehman responded with an 8-2 run to pull within 16-12 on a jumper from Melissa Escalera (Bronx, NY/Adlai Stevenson) with 10:59 to play. However, MSU answered with a 19-3 run during a five-minute span to take control.
PAM BARONE (Staten Island, NY/St. John Villa) ingnited the run with a fast-break layup and Synder had six straight and eight points in the run as MSU built a 35-15 lead with 4:05 to play before half. The Red Hawks led 40-21 at the intermission.
In the second half, the Red Hawks turned up the defense forcing Lehman into 22 turnovers and hold the Lightning to just 18 percent (5-of-27) shooting from the floor. MSU struggled as well going 13-of-41 (31 percent) from the field, but offset that by connecting on 20-of-23 (87 percent) from the charity stripe. Montclair State finished 24-of-29 from the free throw line.
Snyder posted career-highs for points and rebounds while also adding five assists and six steals.
KRISTEN POTENZONE (Totowa, NJ/DePaul Catholic) had 14 points and six assists for MSU while
VANESSA DEFREITAS (Kearny, NJ/Kearny) dished out seven assists and collected seven steals.
EBONY ALLEN (Camden, NJ/Woodrow Wilson) had nine points and five rebounds.
For Lehman, Escalera had six points, seven rebounds and three blocked shots.
